SANTÉ DIABÈTE ORGANIZED A DAY AT THE FRENCH NATIONAL ASSEMBLY
This conference entitled "Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs): a public health emergency in the north and in the south" was organized in January 2019 by Santé Diabète in close collaboration with the Members of Parliament (MPs), deputies Olivier Veran, Hervé Berville and Michèle Crouzet. It was co-chaired by the deputy Olivier Veran and by the Global Health Ambassador of France Stéphanie Seydoux. This conference, which brought together more than 250 people and a very large number of French experts, initially aimed to recall the achievements and gaps that remain to be filled in France in the fight against NCDs. Then, in a second step, it allowed to analyze the situation of many countries of the "south" to address the explosion of NCDs and to exchange on the expertise that France could mobilize to support these countries.

Testimony
DR TARANEH SHOJAEI
Former Head of the Global Health Policy Unit, Ministry of Europe and Foreign Affairs
"This 1st international conference ( "Francophone perspectives in global health: synergies in the fight against diabetes and non-communicable diseases in Africa") organized by Santé Diabète shows the collective desire to break down the barriers and share vision on the issues of Non-Communicable Diseases (MNT) in the French-speaking area and more generally those of global health.
By relying on very high-level experts and providing concrete elements, this very interactive and operational conference was a beautiful illustration of collective intelligence in a field still little invested in global health.
The approach of the speakers was in perfect harmony with France's approach to global health (France's strategy for global health 2017-2021), multisectoral and multidisciplinary, which focuses on strengthening health systems, while fighting against diseases."
Political advocacy
Meeting with the Advisor to the President of the French Republic on the issue of diabetes in Africa.
Stéphane Besançon (director of the NGO Santé Diabète), Prof Drabo (Burkina Faso) and Prof Sidibé (Mali) in front of the Elysée Palace.
Our advocacy work also involves drafting technical briefs for various political bodies. One such brief, addressed directly to the Health and Medical Research Advisor to the President of the French Republic, led to a high-level meeting at the Élysée Palace on June 3, 2015.
This meeting allowed us to seek the support of the Élysée Palace in the fight against diabetes in Africa. It brought together Professor Lyon-Caen, Health Advisor to the President of the French Republic; the Director General of Santé Diabète; and the diabetes-endocrinology professors involved in our field activities in Burkina Faso (Prof. Drabo), Mali (Prof. Sibidé), and Senegal (Prof. Ndour).
This meeting ensured that the attention given by the Presidency of the French Republic to our activities strengthened the commitment of the stakeholders involved in improving the living conditions of people living with diabetes in Africa.
International expert groups
Since 2017, our association has joined several high-level scientific committees. It first became a member of the international commission of the scientific journal *The Lancet* on “Diabetes in Sub-Saharan Africa,” followed by the scientific committees of the Geneva Health Forum (GHF) and the World Diabetes Congress (WDC). In recognition of Santé Diabète’s many years of work, the international community honored the organization with a 45-minute Award Lecture at the World Diabetes Congress in December 2017.
At the beginning of 2018, Santé Diabète joined two major international commissions: the international commission responsible for the Diabetes Atlas of the International Diabetes Federation (IDF), and the International Alliance for Diabetes Action (IADA), which includes UNRWA, UNHCR, ICRC, IDF, WDF, and many other international organizations.
Santé Diabète is also an official partner of the "humanity and health" chair and will participate in this context in the first white paper on the first patient-led hospital.
