Santé Diabète is a non-governmental organisation founded in 2001 to address the lack of access to healthcare for people living with diabetes in Africa and to help make this urgent public health issue an international priority.
Initially active in Mali, Santé Diabète subsequently expanded its work to Burkina Faso, Senegal (until 2018), the Union of the Comoros, Cabo Verde and France (where the association is headquartered), with permanent teams in each country.
To develop strong public policies and sustainably strengthen health systems, the NGO works with all institutional partners (national and local authorities, civil society actors, communities and people living with diabetes), taking a comprehensive approach to better prevention and quality diabetes care.
Diabetes is a chronic condition characterised by persistently elevated blood glucose levels. Worldwide, 589 million adults aged 20 to 79 are currently living with diabetes. In 2024, it caused the deaths of 3.4 million adults. Its prevalence is increasing particularly rapidly on the African continent (1).
Living well with diabetes means that you have to develop both a lifestyle that allows you to control the disease but that also allows you to accomplish your projects and your dreams.
Santé Diabète develops and evaluates approaches tailored to local contexts to improve the prevention and management of diabetes. Its resources centre compiles and makes available publications, tools, training materials and educational resources drawn from this experience.
