Santé Diabète releases its 2024 annual report: a year rich in actions and results
We are proud to present our annual report 2024, a testament to Santé Diabète’s ongoing commitment to improve the prevention and care of diabetes, especially in Africa.
In 2024, in Burkina Faso, Mali, and the Union of the Comoros, with the support of our partners and the dedication of our teams, we:
- Opened 6 new Regional Prevention Houses: 4 in Burkina Faso and 2 in the Union of the Comoros
- Trained over 400 healthcare professionals to ensure quality care for type 1 diabetes, type 2 diabetes, and gestational diabetes
- Screened more than 18,700 people at risk of diabetes and high blood pressure
- Trained 94 new peer educators to lead diabetes risk prevention activities
- Trained 75 peer educators to carry out prevention of diabetes/HIV and diabetes/tuberculosis comorbidities among people living with HIV or diabetes
- Raised awareness among more than 17,000 people about diabetes risk factors through peer educator-led activities in Prevention Houses and communities
- Raised awareness among more than 12,400 people living with HIV about diabetes and over 6,200 people living with diabetes about HIV and tuberculosis, through peer educator-led prevention activities on diabetes/HIV and diabetes/tuberculosis comorbidities.
- Reached 7,638 women on gestational diabetes
- Reached 5,611 primary school students with awareness activities on diabetes risk factors
- Provided care for 1,600 children and young people living with type 1 diabetes and strengthened the education of 445 of them through therapeutic education days
- Played a key role in strengthening national policies to tackle Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs), including diabetes, in Burkina Faso, Mali, and the Union of the Comoros, and supported the integration of diabetes care into the Universal Health Coverage (UHC) benefit package in all three countries.
- Secured the integration of prevention and care for diabetes/HIV and diabetes/tuberculosis comorbidities into the new Global Fund grants for Burkina Faso, Mali, and the Union of the Comoros
- Advocated for equitable access to insulin, medicines and devices, and advocated for mandatory Nutri-Score labeling in France

In 2024, Santé Diabète entered the cruising phase of its flagship program.
